We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Spiritual Psychotherapy

Clinical Psychology Practice: A Practice in Holistic Psychotherapy.

Over the past 30 plus years in private practice, I have worked with many children and adults struggling with a variety of challenges including anxiety and depression.

In the past I have specialized in teaching children and adolescence self esteem and coping skills (The Capable Kid Program). Though I continue to see children in my practice, my focus is now on adults. I continue to work with anxiety and depression with the added advantage of a spiritual perspective.

My background in medical psychology gives me an added benefit in working with individuals with physical problems. I work with some insurance programs including Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Spiritual Psychotherapy. When given the opportunity, my preference would be to work with a client incorporating the following goals and tools:.

The goals of spiritual psychotherapy are:

1. To identify with one’s Higher Self or Spirit rather than the ego. That is, you are not your body, your problems, your past, your finances, your job, your gender, your ethnicity. These are roles you play. You are a spiritual being having a human experience.

2. Understanding the Universal Law of Cause and Effect. This means that you take 100% responsibility for your life, your situation, and for yourself. That you are the creator of your life and your thinking; your beliefs and your assumptions create your world.

3. Non-attachment. As a spiritual being you are not attached to outcomes, forms, or experiences. Your well being comes from within you, by way of your spiritual identity.

Spiritual Psychotherapy gives the client the opportunity to look at their life challenges through the lens of their Higher Self.

The tools of Spiritual Psychotherapy include;:

  1. Meditation
  2. Prayer
  3. Contemplation
  4. Conscious awareness of one’s tendency toward fear or anger, shifting ones emotional state away from fear
  5. Daily practice of staying conscious of one’s thoughts, emotions and behaviors
  6. Understanding your personality (ego) with the help of the Enneagram
  7. Recording and Understanding your Dreams
  8. Journaling
  9. The use of guided imagery
  10. Recognizing and working with your Shadow
  11. Discovering your core beliefs
  12. Practicing Gratitude

A deep sense of peace and connectedness is the outcome for practicing

these skills.
